Cyber-space

Cyber-space is a generic name for a virtual mainframe network connecting multiple servers on the Planet Numerus. The network is divided into sections with varying security levels, where “divers” can access information and communicate over long distances using their virtual projections.

The environment’s appearance consists mainly of monochromatic rectangular shapes overlaid with streams of neon-blue code and holographic gates that restrict unauthorized entry into protected areas.

The network dates back centuries, and most records of its inception are either locked behind top-level security or were destroyed during the so-called “Data Purge.”

Diving is performed by connecting to a data node’s communication port – only Tribut‘s are equipped with ports; other non-machine lifeforms must use a specialized gear.

Mechanism of Diving
Diving is more than a simple data link: it uses a neural-mapping interface to “transfer” a diver’s consciousness into the virtual environment. The diver gear varies, usually it is in a form of a helmet interface, creating a one-to-one mapping of thought, memory, and sensation. Once the link is active, the diver’s body enters a light stasis while their mind navigates the network as a fully sentient projection.

Divers enter the network as virtual projections and are typically confined to “visitor” layers; other layers serve for data transfer, maintenance, and other essential functions.

Divers can disconnect at any time and reconnect at the nearest terminal where they last exited. The only exceptions are at highly restricted locations where the connection remains active – sudden disconnection there can cause the user to fall into a coma until a proper terminal reconnection and re-upload are executed.
